Should I get my mom a DVR, or a DVD recorder, for her birthday?

Whісh one іѕ more versatile? CHeap? Easy tο υѕе? Easy tο maintain? Whаt аrе thе advantages οf DVR? Arе thеrе others besides TiVo?

Cаn уου record directly onto a DVD frοm a television program?

Aѕ many details аѕ possible please!!

I have both, and have stopped using my DVD recorder. It’s a pain to set up to record a DVD, much more complicated than a VCR. The DVR is great and very easy to learn to use, but it is not cheap, and there may be a monthly fee involved. Despite all that, it’s the only way to go.

I have a dvr from my cable company (Cox) and cannot stand to watch live TV anymore. It is very easy to operate. Mine can record 2 shows and I can watch a show that’s already been recorded; Cox also offers one that can record 4. My aunt got one from her satellite provider and it can only record 1 thing and you would have to watch what’s being recorded. Check what the features are before signing a contract. Mine is $15/month including box rental so I don’t have to worry about the box becoming inoperable. Tivo, you have to buy the box and the service is about $15/month.

DVR is better, no external media to deal with, no wondering if one brand of DVD-R will work in the unit or not, both cable and satellite companies provide DVR service now

I BELIEVE YOU SHOULD GET A DVR. THEY ARE WAY COLL AND YOU CAN PAUSE LIVE TV. HOW COOL IS THAT ? ALSO YOU CAN RECORD TWO SHOWS AT ON TIM, AND ALSO A WHOLE SERIES OF A PROGAM. WITH A DVR THE POSSIBLITIES ARE END LESS. SHE WOULD MOST DEFINITELY ENJOY AND HAVE MORE FUN WITH A DVR!!!!!

Chances are your mother already has a dvd player. If she uses a cable box to receive stations, I’d replace the cable box with a DVR/Cable box from the cable company (about $12 more a month). This way she’ll only have to deal with the 1 remote plus I think the dvr is much easier to use and you won’t have a wire jungle behind the tv. If your cable company does not offer a DVR, go with the TiVo.
A dvd recorder is nice, on the other hand, because you can keep your recorded shows forever You can record directly to dvd’s including rewritable dvds but for ease of use, I feel the DVR would be best for mom.
